Hatchet 3: Hatchet 3 Horror Film is the third installment of the Hatchet film series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.
Its use of special effects is the main strength of this movie. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes in the movie.
The cast gives a solid performance, with Kane Hodder being the most terrifying villain. It feels like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is somewhat funny and snarky. There are also some truly humorous moments that provide an entertaining contrast to the heart-wrenching violence.
Unfortunately, because the budget is so small (reportedly one million dollars), most locations that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from previous films in series. For example the exact boathouse location was featured twice in the film. Many of these locations feel like they were reused from previous films from this series. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.
Overall, I enjoyed (blog) Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. It also provided plenty of gory thrills and entertaining performances from the actors.
